The Liberia Solidarity Group and the National Women’s Council of Ireland, in association with the Institute for British-Irish Studies (IBIS), School of Politics and IR,\u00a0UCD, and Tr\u00f3caire, in organising\u00a0a round table discussion\u00a0on Wednesday 15th May in Dublin. The event is entitled ‘Women, Peace and Decision-Making in post-conflict societies’<\/b> and takes place from 10.30am – 13.00pm in the National Women’s Council of Ireland’s offices (<\/span>4th Floor, 2\/3 Parnell Sq. East, Dublin 1)<\/b>. Our Liberian guest speakers are: Dorothy Tooman – Director of DEN-L Development Education Network Liberia, Kortoe Williams – Director of Action Aid Liberia and Caroline Brown – Deputy Head of Mission, medica mondiale.<\/span><\/p>\n

We aim to bring<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Irish Women in Civil Society Organisations North\/South together in solidarity with women leaders in Civil Society Organisations in Liberia\u00a0to exchange experiences on ‘women, peace and decision-making in post conflict societies’.<\/p>\n

This round table event is part of the DFAT-CRU funded\u00a0IBIS project titled ‘Addressing Cultural Legacies of Conflict. <\/span><\/b>Towards an intercultural and inter-dimensional Dialogue on Women, Peace and Security.’<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A particular theme of our discussion will be the release of Ireland’s new White Paper which\u00a0mentions a specific commitment to 1325 (p. 17):<\/p>\n

We will continue to support efforts to implement<\/i><\/div>\n
the United Nations Security Council Resolution<\/i><\/div>\n
1325\u00a0on Women, Peace and Security, which<\/i><\/div>\n
recognises the close links between the issues<\/i><\/div>\n
of peace, security and development, and the<\/i><\/div>\n
promotion of gender equality and women\u2019s rights.<\/i><\/div>\n
Ireland\u2019s recently launched National Action Plan<\/i><\/div>\n
for Implementation of UNSCR 1325 will guide our<\/i><\/div>\n
efforts in this area. The Conflict Resolution Unit in<\/i><\/div>\n
the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will<\/i><\/div>\n
play a lead role for the Government in this area.<\/i><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
